Obituary - Gina Murray 03 October 2024

Obituary: Gina Murray (1947 – 2024)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gina Murray on 3rd October 2024. A beloved volunteer and integral member of Kilcooley Women’s Centre (KWC) for over 15 years, Gina was a tireless advocate and leader in supporting older women within our community. Her warmth, compassion, and dedication touched the lives of countless individuals, and her legacy will be felt for years to come.

Gina’s life was marked by personal tragedy. She lost her daughter, Leanne, in the devastating Shankill bomb when Leanne was just 13 years old. Despite this unimaginable loss, Gina channelled her grief into a lifelong campaign for justice, ensuring that her daughter’s memory lived on through her activism and unyielding commitment to peace and reconciliation.

Now reunited with her beloved Leanne, Gina leaves behind her son Gary, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. Her strength, love, and dedication to her family was matched only by her commitment to helping others in her community.

Gina will be remembered not only for her deep personal resilience but also for her infectious energy and her ability to bring people together. The heartbroken team at Kilcooley Women’s Centre mourn the loss of a friend, mentor, and true inspiration. Her contributions to our programmes and to the lives of countless women will never be forgotten.

Gina Murray’s life was a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the work she championed and the people she touched. Rest in peace, Gina, now reunited with your precious Leanne.
