Celebrate harvest time with this special Heritage Crafts class, part of our Eastside Lives Bangor programme at The Old Market House.

One of the oldest country crafts, straw working has been carried out for hundreds of years in rural communities, where items like corn dollies, straw hats and ornaments for thatched roofs  were made as part of everyday life.

Straw work can be used to create decorative and intricate designs that have a unique connection to the past – locally, St Brigid’s Day is often celebrated with the creation of a St Brigid’s Cross woven straw design.

Find out about the history of this rural craft and learn how to make your own unique pieces in this special Straw Workshop. Join us on Wednesday 16th October from 1pm – 3pm at The Old Market House and try it out.
