Brigid's Brunch Update

Brigid’s Brunch: Kilcooley Women’s Centre Weaves Tradition, Art, and Brewing into A Celebration of Women

On February 3rd, 2025, Kilcooley Women’s Centre hosted a vibrant ‘Brigid’s Brunch’ at 1 Kilcooley Square, celebrating the legacy of the revered Irish figure, St. Brigid. The event featured a weaving workshop, a discussion on the “Bangor Brigid” mural with local artist Kate Whiteman, and a discussion on beer brewing led by a local expert.

St. Brigid was associated with spring, fertility, healing, creativity, poetry, and brewing. Her festival, Imbolc, celebrated on February 1st, marks the beginning of spring.

Participants at the brunch engaged in traditional weaving, creating Brigid’s crosses, a customary activity during her feast. Local artist Kate Whiteman led a discussion on the Bangor Brigid mural, sharing insights into its creation and significance. The event concluded with a beer brewing discussion and some delicious tasting accompanied by scones dripping in delicious honey as Brigid is associated with beekeeping, all activities were designed to connect with St. Brigid’s association with brewing and hospitality.

The ‘Brigid’s Brunch’ was part of Kilcooley Women’s Centre’s ongoing efforts to celebrate cultural heritage and community engagement. The centre continues to offer a range of services and events aimed at empowering women in the community.

Happy St. Brigid’s Day!
