Nestled on the picturesque Ards Peninsula, Mount Stewart Estate offers an idyllic escape for women of engaged with our heritage group seeking rejuvenation and tranquility. This historic gem, renowned for its breathtaking gardens and grand mansion, was the perfect setting for a wellbeing day trip escape. Here’s a glimpse into a day spent embracing nature, history, and relaxation at this stunning estate.

Exploring the Historic House

We began our  journey with a guided tour of the majestic Mount Stewart House. This 19th-century mansion, once home to the influential Londonderry family, is a treasure trove of art, antiques, and stories. As we wanderedr through the opulent rooms, our guide shared fascinating tales of the estate’s rich history and the remarkable women who shaped its legacy. The exquisite décor, featuring intricate tapestries, sparkling chandeliers, and elegant furnishings, was a feast for the eyes and a glimpse into a bygone era.

Strolling Through the Gardens

After immersing  in the history of the house, we stepped outside to explore the award-winning gardens that surround the estate. Designed by Edith, Lady Londonderry, these gardens are a testament to her visionary creativity and horticultural expertise. Meandering along the winding paths, we encountered a diverse array of plants, from vibrant azaleas and rhododendrons to serene lakes and charming topiaries. The Italian Garden, Shamrock Garden, and Sunken Garden each offer their own unique ambiance, inviting you to pause, breathe deeply, and soak in the beauty of nature.

A Tranquil Walk in the Grounds

For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, a leisurely walk through the extensive grounds of Mount Stewart is a must. The estate boasts miles of trails that weave through woodlands, pastures, and along the shores of Strangford Lough. Whether you choose a gentle stroll or a more invigorating hike, the peaceful surroundings and stunning vistas provide the perfect backdrop for reflection and mindfulness. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including red squirrels, otters, and a variety of bird species, which add to the enchanting atmosphere.

Relaxing at the Bay Tree Café

No wellbeing trip is complete without a moment to savor delicious food and drink. We concluded our  visit with a stop at the Bay Tree Café, located within the estate. This charming café offers a selection of freshly prepared meals, homemade cakes, and refreshing beverages. Enjoy a light lunch or a decadent afternoon tea while overlooking the scenic gardens. The warm, welcoming ambiance of the café provides a delightful space to unwind and share your experiences with fellow visitors.
