Our Level 3 Award in Education and Training is the ideal starting point for anyone looking to teach or train in the adult learning or skills sector.

This blended course combines face-to-face and online sessions, offering practical experience, supportive teaching, and a chance to plan and deliver your own microteach session.

Start of program is Tuesday 20th January, with an aim to finish by 28th April 2026

Location : Face to face at The Old Market House, Main Street Bangor. Also online sessions.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is ideal for anyone who has a skill, craft, or area of expertise they would like to teach, as well as those who are considering a move into teaching or training.

You do not need to be currently teaching to take this course. It is designed as an introductory teaching qualification and is suitable for:

  • People with a craft or practical skill who want to run workshops or short courses
  • Those looking to teach part-time or alongside another role
  • Practitioners who are already delivering training but want a recognised qualification
  • Anyone considering progression into further education or skills-based teaching

The qualification provides a strong foundation and a recognised accreditation to support teaching in a range of settings.


What does the course cover?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training equips learners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to begin teaching confidently and professionally.

The course focuses on:

Course Modules

The qualification is made up of three core units:

1. Understand Roles and Responsibilities in Education and Training

This unit introduces you to what it really means to be a tutor or trainer. You will explore:

  • The key roles and responsibilities of a teacher
  • Professional boundaries and ethical practice
  • The importance of legislation, equality, diversity, and safeguarding
  • Working relationships with other professionals in education and training

This module lays the groundwork for teaching in a professional and responsible way.


2. Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches

This unit focuses on how to plan and deliver sessions that meet the needs of all learners. You will learn how to:

  • Create inclusive learning environments
  • Plan structured and engaging session plans
  • Use a range of teaching methods and resources
  • Motivate and support learners with different abilities and learning styles
  • Evaluate your own teaching to improve future sessions

You will also be assessed in micro‑teaching, giving you the chance to practise delivering a short session in a supportive environment.


3. Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

Assessment is a key part of teaching, and this unit helps you understand how to assess learners confidently and fairly. You will cover:

  • Different types and methods of assessment
  • How to assess learning against set criteria
  • Giving constructive feedback to learners
  • The importance of record‑keeping and standardisation

This module ensures you understand how assessment supports learning and progression.


Assessment and Learning Approach

Assessment is ongoing and designed to support learning rather than create pressure. You will build a portfolio of evidence, which may include:

  • Tutor observations
  • Written assignments and reflective work
  • Professional discussions
  • Micro‑teaching observations
  • Peer and self‑evaluation

There is no external exam.

You will be fully supported by your tutor throughout the course.


Entry Requirements

There are no formal teaching experience requirements.

Learners should:

  • Have GCSE English / Level 2 Literacy (or equivalent)
  • Have access to a PC or laptop and the internet
  • Be able to complete written assignments and research

Progression Opportunities

On completion, learners may:

  • Progress into a teaching or facilitating role
  • Use the qualification to support part‑time or sessional teaching
  • Progress onto further qualifications, including:
    • Level 3 Award or Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
    • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
    • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

Course Duration and Cost

  • Total Qualification Time: 120 hours
  • Guided Learning: 48 hours (9 face‑to‑face sessions, plus micro‑teaching)
  • Directed Study: Approx. 72 hours
