KWC Announce the 2024 Summer Splash Holiday Scheme

Exciting Launch of Our 2024 Summer Scheme for Children!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 Summer Scheme, a four-week adventure designed to provide children with a memorable, fun-filled experience! This program is packed with exciting activities, games, trips, and opportunities to make new friends and engage in positive play.  Enrolment will take place week commencing Monday 28 May 2024, at Kilcooley Women’s Centre at Kilcooley Square in Bangor.

What to Expect

Our Summer Scheme offers a wide range of activities to keep children entertained and engaged.  Each year we carefully curate the best possible experience for local children aged 5-11, many of whom otherwise would not have the opportunity to take part in a holiday and out of school scheme.  This year is more crucial than ever, with families facing the cost of living crisis, which is harder to navigate during the school holidays.  For this reason, we extended the scheme from 2 to 4 weeks, providing space for more children than ever before:

  • Fun and Games: From sports and outdoor games to arts and crafts, there’s something for every child to enjoy. Our activities are designed to promote teamwork, creativity, and physical fitness, building the confidence and self esteem of our young people.

  • Exciting Trips: Each week includes a range of special trips to local attractions such as parks, museums, and adventure centres. These excursions offer children the chance to explore new places, learn about their local area, and have loads of fun.

  • Friendship Building: Our program encourages children to make new friends through group activities and collaborative projects. These friendships often extend beyond the summer, providing ongoing social support and companionship.

  • Positive Play: We focus on creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can engage in positive play. This helps to build self-esteem, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Benefits for Children from Disadvantaged Backgrounds

Our Summer Scheme is particularly beneficial for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Here’s how:

  • Access to Enriching Activities: Many children from low-income families might not have access to extracurricular activities. Our scheme provides them with the opportunity to participate in enriching experiences they might otherwise miss.

  • Supportive Environment: We offer a supportive environment where children can feel safe and valued. This is crucial for their emotional and social development, especially for those who may face challenges at home or in their communities.

  • Nutritional Support: Healthy snacks and meals are provided to ensure that all children receive the nutrition they need to stay energized and engaged throughout the day. We provide water bottles and encourage the children to consider sustainability and drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated during the fun packed days.  Snacks are provided to ensure all children taking part are well fed, ensuring no one experiences holiday hunger whilst with us.

  • Building Confidence: Through positive reinforcement and supportive mentoring, children can develop greater self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

  • Community Integration: Our program helps to integrate children from various backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and understanding within the community.

We are committed to making this summer an unforgettable experience for every child. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers is ready to provide a safe, fun, and educational environment where children can thrive.
