KWC Appointed to Peace Plus Partnership as Women’s Sector Representative

Kilcooley Women’s Centre Joins Ards North Down Peace Plus Partnership

We are delighted  that Kilcooley Women’s Centre (KWC) has been appointed to the Ards North Down Peace Plus Partnership to represent the women’s sector in our region. This significant appointment marks a new chapter in our mission to champion women’s voices and strengthen community development.

Alison Blayney, our CEO, will attend the cross-sectoral planning meetings as part of this key partnership. Her involvement ensures that the perspectives and needs of women in our community are integral to the development of the local action plan. This plan is crucial as it will determine how the Council allocates over €5 million on projects designed to reinforce and advance peace and reconciliation in our area.

Our Commitment to Peace and Reconciliation

Kilcooley Women’s Centre has always been committed to promoting peace, equality, and community cohesion and have been represented on the Peace Partnerships during Peace 1, Peace 2, Peace 3 and Peace 4.  Our involvement in the Peace Plus Partnership aligns perfectly with our core values of building peace and promoting good relations. Through this partnership, we aim to bring a focused and strategic approach to addressing the unique challenges faced by women, particularly those from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds and hold Council and SEUPB to account in their responsibility to the United Nations international declaration UN1325 to which the British and Irish Governments have signed up to.

Our Role on Peace Plus

Alison Blayney brings a wealth of experience and a passionate commitment to her role in the Peace Plus Partnership. With a history of advocating for women’s rights and driving community initiatives, Alison is well-equipped to contribute effectively to the cross-sectoral planning meetings. Her leadership will ensure that the projects funded by the Peace Plus Partnership will have a lasting and positive impact on our community, specifically to improve outcomes for women, children and families.

Shaping the Future Together

The Peace Plus Partnership provides an incredible opportunity for collaborative efforts to build a more inclusive and harmonious society. By representing the women’s sector, Kilcooley Women’s Centre will work alongside other stakeholders to ensure that the projects funded under this initiative address key issues such as skills and training, mental health, children and young people, social inclusion, economic empowerment, and community well-being.

Looking Ahead

As we embark on this journey, we are excited about the potential outcomes of the Peace Plus Partnership. We are confident that through collaborative planning and action, we can make significant strides in sustaining our peace and reconciliation in Ards North Down. Kilcooley Women’s Centre is proud to be a part of this transformative initiative and is committed to making a meaningful contribution to the local action plan.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress and the exciting projects that will emerge from this partnership. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
