Bangor Social Supermarket
Our social supermarket is going from strength to strength, with continued growth and a strong sense of community. Over the past few months, we’ve welcomed many new shoppers through a smooth onboarding process, while also bidding farewell to others who have successfully moved on—reflecting the supportive, transitional nature of our service. One of the most exciting developments has been the opening of the Queen Bee Café, which has quickly become a much-loved addition to our offering. Open every Wednesday morning, the café provides a warm, friendly space where shoppers can enjoy a hot drink and light refreshments before beginning their shop. It’s also open to the wider public, helping to foster a sense of inclusion and connection within the local area.
In addition to our core supermarket service, we’re proud to offer a range of wraparound support to meet the wider needs of our community. We host monthly Benefits Clinics at 1 Kilcooley Square, giving shoppers and local residents access to expert advice on benefit entitlements and related issues in a comfortable, familiar setting. We’ve also introduced Money Management classes, designed to help individuals build confidence in budgeting, saving, and planning for the future—practical skills that have made a real difference in people’s lives.
Our Community Fridge runs every week, offering free surplus food to anyone who needs it, helping to reduce food waste while supporting households facing food insecurity. We also offer a growing range of support services, including interview advice, CV help, and employability skills development—all designed to help individuals move forward with confidence, whether they’re returning to work, retraining, or taking their next step.
